Last week we hosted the Eastshore Orchestra 1 Festival and featured guest artists for the first time ever at an Eastshore Orchestra Festival – the Sphinx Virtuosi! The Sphinx Virtuosi is a dynamic and inspiring professional self-conducted chamber orchestra and serves as the flagship performing entity of the Sphinx Organization – the leading non-profit dedicated to transforming lives through the power of the arts.
Seven Orchestras from neighboring schools came to MIHS on Thursday, March 6, to perform and receive a clinic from our guest artists. Our combined Mercer Island Orchestras presented the final pieces of the program that we will be performing in Carnegie Hall and received some excellent feedback from our new friends. All participants were also able to enjoy a concert hour and question and answer session put on by the Sphinx Virtuosi. Below is a video link to our performance.

So proud of our IMS middle school 7th and 8th grade orchestra chosen to be a Concert Hour exemplary honor group for the 2025 National Association for Music Education’s All-NW Conference in Spokane, WA! They sounded so amazing! Bravo! 👏👏👏
This year, only two middle school string groups in the entire Northwest region (WA, OR, ID, WY, MT, AK) were chosen for this huge honor – and Islander Middle School orchestra is one of them!
We were the talk of the conference and got a standing ovation!
