The Vicki White Miltun Scholarship
This $500 scholarship, funded by Mercer Island Orchestra Boosters, is given to a graduating orchestra senior at the MIHS Orchestra’s end of year banquet.
Named in honor of Orchestra Director Vicki White Miltun who gave her students over 30 years of service, encouragement and a love of music, this scholarship is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies similar qualities in the high school orchestra.
There is no application for this scholarship. There are no minimum requirements for music ability, years in orchestra or grades. It truly is about the student’s personal commitment and support of school orchestra. Scholarship recipient is selected at the discretion of the Orchestra Director.

Lylburn Layer Scholarship
Lylburn Layer Music Grant Application – Due Midnight May 17
This grant is awarded to MIHS students who are currently in their junior year. It is funded by the Fine Arts Advisory Committee. The Fine Arts Advisory Committee Guidelines and Procedures provide that the grant will be a single, non-renewable award which is to be used “exclusively for tuition with a fine arts instructor; attending fine arts events such as concerts; and/or fees, books and equipment required for continued success in the student’s artistic education.”
Applicants for this grant should be students who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the music program.
Criteria for selection may include, but are not limited to:
1) Prior academic or artistic performance based on participation in Mercer Island School District music programs
2) Recommendation by a current music instructor
3) Financial need
4) Review of personal statement

Robert S. Harrington Scholarship
Robert S. Harrington Scholarship Application – Due by midnight May 26
This grant provides that “this award shall be given to a [MIHS] Senior, with promise, who intends to pursue a career in the field of music. This individual should also have demonstrated a high level of scholarship and a commitment to community service.” The scholarship will be a single, nonrenewable award of no less than $1000.
