An incredibly rich way to learn is to teach others.
At school, student teaching and coaching are encouraged:
– Between and among seat partners. Our instructors often change students’ seating so that students with certain strengths (e.g. sight reading or rhythm) can symbiotically learn from each other
– Teacher assistant opportunities begin in the 8th grade
Outside school, students may be referred by their instructor to teach other Mercer Island orchestra students for a nominal lesson fee.
High school students may join the Seattle Music Partners program and teach aspiring orchestra students in low income schools in the greater Seattle area.
